Communication Device Policy page

In June 2025, Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 1481 into law, prohibiting student use of cell phones and personal communication devices in all Texas public schools. In compliance with this law, Edgewood ISD will enforce the ban throughout the instructional day in all areas of the campus, including but not limited to classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, and athletic facilities.

Edgewood ISD recognizes that House Bill 1481 introduces a significant change for students and families. As such, a measure of grace will be extended during the initial implementation phase at the beginning of the 2025–2026 school year. However, it is important to note that enforcement of this law is not optional. The district is required to comply with the policy as established by Governor Abbott and the Texas Education Agency.
