Apps for Suicide, Underage Drinking and Bullying Prevention - The Texas Youth Suicide Prevention project announces a small iPhone/Android App for suicide prevention which is freely distributable everywhere. To download this app on an iPhone, iPad or iTunes, search for "suicide prevention" and look for "ASK." The app features the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number, 1-800-273-8255, warning signs, how to ask the question about suicide to save a life, and a list of Texas' Local Mental Health Authorities (community MHMR centers). Prepare for one of the most important conversations you may ever have with your kids about underage drinking. SAMHSA’s “Talk. They Hear You.” app is available on desktop computers and on the go from the App Store, Google Play and Windows.

Suicide Prevention

Teen Suicide Prevention Campaign - The Suicide Prevention Lifeline, sponsored by the federal government’s Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), hopes to raise awareness in teens that are contemplating suicide that there are resources they can turn to and other teens that have contemplated suicide and made it through. JED Foundation encourages young people to visit the mental health resource center, Your Life Your Voice gives teens tips to deal with challenging situations. The WeCanHelpUs campaign tells teens that whatever their problem, there is a way to get through it. Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) for teens that need immediate support.

Underage Drinking Campaign - Too Smart To Start and Talk. They Hear You web sites, keep individuals and organizations informed with the latest news on underage drinking. The websites are sponsored by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) . Both sites help youth, families, educators, and communities prevent underage alcohol use and its related problems. It provides useful programs and strategies, downloadable materials, interactive games and exercises, and other resources to support The Surgeon General's Call to Action To Prevent and Reduce Underage Drinking.

Teen Bullying Prevention - StopBullying.gov provides information from various government agencies on what bullying is, what cyberbullying is, who is at risk, and how you can prevent and respond to bullying. StopBullying.gov coordinates closely with the Federal Partners in Bullying Prevention Steering Committee, an interagency effort co-led by the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services that works to coordinate policy, research, and communications on bullying topics.

Students, Adults and Youth Working Hard Against Tobacco - TX Say What! was created by Texas youth to connect everyone working towards reducing tobacco use throughout the Lone Star State. Youth leaders saw a need to unify the various, and typically disconnected, tobacco prevention efforts statewide aimed at protecting Texans from the harmful effects of tobacco. The Say What! movement provides an umbrella organization to connect, learn, share and inspire others to make a positive difference in their schools and communities!

"Net Cetera': Chatting with Kids about Being Online”— On Guard Online recently released Net Cetera: Chatting with Kids About Being Online, a guide for parents, teachers and other mentors with practical tips to help kids navigate the online world safely. Net Cetera covers a variety of topics – from cyber bullying to file-sharing – as well as where to go for more information and issues to raise with kids about living their lives online.

Protecting Your Kids Online 2.0 - NetSmartz Workshop is an interactive, educational program of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) that provides age-appropriate resources to help teach children how to be safer on- and offline. The program is designed for children ages 5-17, parents and guardians, educators, and law enforcement. With resources such as videos, games, activity cards, and presentations, NetSmartz entertains while it educates.
