Jayna Mitchell

WELCOME HOME TO EDGEWOOD ISD, Mrs. Jayna Mitchell!! 🏠

Mrs. Mitchell will be joining Edgewood Intermediate as a Fourth Grade ELAR Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. 🥳

We had a few minutes to sit down and talk with Mrs. Mitchell and here is what we learned about our new family member. 🥰

💜 Where did you attend college and what degrees and/or certificates do you hold? I attended Texas A&M University Commerce and received a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies. My certifications are: ESL, Elementary Self-Contained, and Elementary Reading. 🎓

💜 How long have you been in education? I will be starting my 31st year in August.👩‍🏫🍎

💜 Tell us a little bit about your previous experience. I have spent my career in the classroom and have no desire to be in administration. I truly love being hands on with the kids. I taught 2nd, 3rd, and 6th in Martin’s Mill. All self-contained. Yes, self-contained 6th grade for two years! Most recently, I’ve served as an elementary interventionist. In Grand Saline, I taught 5th grade ELAR/Social Studies. In Kaufman, 3rd grade ELAR/Social Studies and self-contained 2nd grade.🏫

💜 What would you like to share about your family? My husband, Steve and I have been married for 36 years. We have two grown boys, which have blessed us with three grands. 🥰

💜 Would you like to share a fun fact? A fun fact about me: I am a lifelong artist, work with many types of mediums, but mixed media is my favorite. 🎨🖌️🖍️🧵🖼️

💜 What do you enjoy outside of work? Outside of work I love to spend time with my family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦, especially my sweet grands 💖, Max, Callie, and Maysen Kay. Also, I enjoy shopping 🛍️, cooking/baking 🍳🧁, and travel ✈️🌍.

💜 Can you tell us why you CHOSE EDGEWOOD? After living in the East Texas area many years, I have always enjoyed the drive when my husband and I would come to visit family or friends that lived in the Edgewood area. When I heard about the opening at the intermediate campus, I knew immediately I wanted to apply. From the moment I received the call to interview, I just had a good feeling. I felt such a connection to the ladies I interviewed with, and so happy they chose me to be a part of the 4th grade team. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and an amazing year ahead. 💜🐾💛🐾🤍

Again, WELCOME HOME MRS. MITCHELL!! We are excited to have you join us at Edgewood ISD!! 💜🏡💜
