WELCOME HOME TO EDGEWOOD ISD, Ms. Deona Cox!! 🏠
Ms. Cox will be joining Edgewood Middle School as the 8th Grade Science Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. 🥳
We had a few minutes to sit down and talk with Ms. Cox and here is what we learned about our new family member. 🥰
💜 Where did you attend college and what degrees and/or certificates do you hold? Bachelors at Tarleton State University - Masters at University of Texas @ Dallas. I hold certifications in Physical Science, Life Sciences, and Earth Sciences. I also have a certificate from Baylor for web design and SQL server programming. 🎓
💜 How long have you been in education? 28 years 👩🏫🍎
💜 Tell us a little bit about your previous experience. I have taught just about every science course and several CTE courses. Besides teaching, I have been a Geo-Tech Geologist and a computer programmer. 🏫
💜 What would you like to share about your family? I have two adult children, grandchildren, and a sweet cat named Mabel. 🥰
💜 Would you like to share a fun fact? When I was in 5th grade, my mom sent me to sign up for the local pee wee drill team. I came back with a sign up sheet to play football. I was already playing sports with the boys in school during recess. I played full back on the Raiders football team in Mesquite. I even made all-stars. I was the first girl to play. 🏈🏈
💜 What do you enjoy outside of work? I like to play board games, card games, washers, and cornhole. I like to go jeeping and traveling. Spending time with friends and family is my favorite no matter what we are doing. 🎲🃏🚙✈️🌍👨👩👧👦
💜 Can you tell us why you CHOSE EDGEWOOD? Edgewood is known to be a good school district. It is why I applied for a science position. The reason I chose to work at Edgewood is the administrators and the wonderful faculty I had the pleasure of meeting. They have a love for this Bulldog community. I wanted to be a part of helping our students grow and prepare for whatever comes next.💜🐾💛🐾🤍
