C Pickens

WELCOME (BACK) HOME TO EDGEWOOD ISD, Mrs. Cheyenne Pickens!! 🏠

Mrs. Pickens will be joining Edgewood ISD as the Edgewood High School Assistant Principal for the 2025-2026 school year. 🥳

We had a few minutes to sit down and talk with Mrs. Pickens and here is what we learned about our new family member. 🥰

💜 Where did you attend college and what degrees and/or certificates do you hold? I earned an AA in Education from Pensacola State College where I also played softball. I have a BA in English Literature with a Professional, Technical, and Workplace Writing endorsement from the University of West Florida. I also have a M. Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in English and an M. Ed. in Educational Leadership from The University of Texas at Tyler. I hold certifications for English Language Arts and Reading Grades 4-8, English Language Arts Grades 7-12, English as a Second Language Supplemental, and Principal as Instructional Leader Grades EC-12. 🎓

💜 How long have you been in education? I am entering my 8th year in education, but this will be my 6th year at Edgewood! 👩‍🏫🍎

💜 Tell us a little bit about your previous experience. I have taught English at every level from 6th grade through 12th grade. While previously at Edgewood, I taught a wide range of courses including 6th Grade ELA, Honors English I, and several dual credit courses such as Composition, Introduction to Literature, and British Literature. I also had the opportunity to be part of the inaugural year of Edgewood's Education and Training Program, where I taught Principles of Education. I also coached many of Edgewood’s female athletes through softball, basketball, and volleyball.

Most recently, I have served as an assistant principal at Kaufman High School. In this role, I oversaw the freshman class, managing a cohort of over 300 students. My responsibilities included guiding curriculum implementation, supporting campus-wide academic and operational success, and managing student success and discipline.🏫

💜 What would you like to share about your family? I am married to my best friend, Dakota, and we welcomed our daughter, Darcy, to the world back in February of this year! 🥰

💜 Would you like to share a fun fact? As many of my former students already know, I am a Swiftie and a Disney adult! 🎤✨🐭🎶💖

💜 What do you enjoy outside of work? I always enjoy spending time with my family. I’m also a book nerd at heart and always enjoy reading or listening to an audiobook! My husband and I also love to travel as often as we can! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦📚🎧✈️🌍

💜 Can you tell us why you CHOSE EDGEWOOD? Finding the right words to describe what Edgewood By Choice means to me is difficult, because it means so much. As a third-generation Bulldog, Edgewood isn’t just a district; it’s part of who I am. We fully expect Darcy to be a Bulldog too, and we’re incredibly grateful to be raising her in this community.

I bleed purple and gold, and returning to EHS in this role is truly a dream come true. I am excited to be working back alongside the dedicated staff at Edgewood ISD, but what excites me most about coming back are the students. I’ve had the privilege of teaching and working with many of the students currently at EHS, and being able to support them in a new capacity is deeply meaningful to me. Our students are outstanding, and, as always, I am honored to be a part of their journey.

There are countless reasons why I choose Edgewood—but above all, it’s because this is home. I’m excited to see what God has in store for the future of this district, and I feel truly blessed to be a part of it. 💜🐾💛🐾🤍

Again, WELCOME (BACK) HOME MRS. PICKENS!! We are excited to have you join us at Edgewood ISD!! 💜🏡💜
